LIBERTAD DIGITAL CELEBRATES BUENA VISTA ALL STARS AS THE ESSENCE OF CUBAN MUSIC

THE SPANISH PUBLICATION PRAISES UNA NOCHE EN LA HABANA FOR UNITING MUSICAL LEGENDS AND

NEW GENERATIONS THROUGH RHYTHM, EMOTION, AND HISTORY

Spanish publication Libertad Digital has featured Buena Vista All Stars in an extensive article celebrating the ensemble’s ability to bring the essence of Cuba’s finest music to audiences around the world.

The feature highlights the intergenerational character of the ensemble, led by original Buena Vista Social Club founding member Barbarito Torres and acclaimed musical director and arranger Demetrio Muñiz, whose work with Buena Vista Social Club spans more than 15 years.

The publication also recognizes Muñiz’s remarkable international career and his collaborations with artists including U2, Coldplay, Sting, Jack Johnson, Maroon 5, Radiohead, and Arctic Monkeys—demonstrating the ability of Cuban music to connect naturally with pop, rock, jazz, and other contemporary styles.

Acclaimed trumpeter Manuel Machado is also celebrated for his extraordinary career, including his work with legendary figures such as Bebo Valdés, Chucho Valdés, Celia Cruz, and Paquito D’Rivera.

Speaking to esRadio’s Kilómetro Cero, Machado describes Cuban music as a living expression of love, nostalgia, and joy. He also celebrates the ensemble’s ability to unite different generations of Cuban and Spanish musicians through mutual admiration and a shared passion for music.

The article recalls the enthusiastic reception Buena Vista All Stars has received in cities including Tbilisi, Lyon, Dubai, and Istanbul, where audiences have danced and sung along with the band—an experience Machado describes as an extraordinary source of energy for the musicians.

The feature also explores the ensemble’s timeless repertoire, including “Bésame Mucho,” “Lágrimas Negras,” “Quizás, Quizás,” “Guantanamera,” “Chan Chan,” “El Cuarto de Tula,” and “Ay Candela.” Each song combines a profound respect for tradition with contemporary staging that introduces these classics to new generations.

More than a concert, Libertad Digital presents Una Noche en La Habana as an immersive musical experience that transports audiences to the cultural heart of Cuba through rhythm, emotion, and history—keeping its musical spirit alive while allowing it to continue evolving.
